Taking voice lessons as a worship leader is not a small thing if you know what you want! The great thing about 333 Music Studios is we do the music the students wants or NEEDS to do! and we Love Jesus Like, what is due THIS weekend, or “… so and so asked me to sing last min, yikes!”. Classic Worship Pastor thing, springing songs on us last min Faith (Girl in video) is someone knew to this (Not Jesus or the church), but to LEADING worship AND working with people in it AND in knowing what it means to lead others in worship to GOD…

We encourage many of our students to step out of their comfort zone in voice lessons. And by the way, as worship leaders we need to be in that place ALL THE TIME. Faith is a worship leader and a worship leader in training… basically a “LEAD WORSHIPER”. So we should know what we are leading and why… this needs to come out in (add what you think, in comments section):

1. Heart for Jesus.

2. Physical stance/worship: eye contact, mouth, hands and posture etc.

3. How we LEAD: the band, (if there is one) and especially the CHURCH congregation.

4. Musical Preparation: know our stuff!

Maybe that helps? Faith is doing it!

–

Faith from 333 Music Studios here doing her first video with friend Alec (thanks for playing bro). Faith has been taking voice lessons with us for several months now and is doing awesome… Great job Faith! She went for it and used some great confidence! We love this song! Hope you enjoy it! Many more to come from Faith, right Faith!!!??!?!?!?

Let us know if you want help with your next worship set or voice warm up:)

THANKS!

Elizabeth here rocking “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5, doing a wonderful job. Here is the crazy thing, voice student Elizabeth has only been playing the guitar for a month! Great job Elizabeth!

“She Will Be Loved” is an older song by the band Maroon 5. We are in Key of D and capoing on fret one, which puts us in the Eb. Knowing the musical alphabet is everything in music theory and you must know if well to use a capo right!

MUSICAL Alphabet - walks up with each fret, each fret is a “half step”. 8 notes in a major scale, but don’t forget the half notes.

A, A#=Bb, B, C, C#=Db, D, D#=Eb, E, F, F#=Gb, G, G#=Ab, A = octave.

Apply this to any chord you are playing and “walk up” with each fret using a capo and playing the same chord…

Also, pay attention to this when you “google” chord charts etc. It will help to find the right chart… :)

Thanks and let us know if you are interested in guitar and/or voice lessons like Elizabeth.

Rocking out to songs our students wants to learn, and Maddy crushed it. Well done girl…

Hitting hight notes in private Voice lessons and performance takes breath support, practicing resonance and straight up confidence. Tools that Maddy has worked hard to master. Coming from a choral back ground she has made the choice to grow her gifts in contemporary rock, pop, and other simular genres… Students like her @ 333 Music Studios enjoy the power of the classical training while doing and applying it to songs they hear, love and sing off the radio… its what we do (Olympia, wa).

Way to go Maddy – making it look easy.

Gracie did a great job with this amazing song. We choose to get rid of the pic last min to really create an easy intimate feel, which matched her voice better for this song – she worked very hard @ doing her first strumming song ever – she was used to only playing notes, but now she rocks both!

Here are a couple ideas for you when you cover your next song: Try using a capo to adjust the pitch (girls doing guy songs and vise versa are often to high or to low, so use the Capo). Try switching guitar for a piano song, or vise versa. Use a pick and no fingers, both? Record yourself and LEARN from it.

This is what we do @ 333 and we love it!

We have the rock star here, Shelby Adams from 333 Music Studios. I totally love and admire Shelby’s passion for great songs… her love for music and desire to get better is seen every week. Thanks for working so hard Shelby, we loved this version of “I Won’t Give up” by Jason Mraz.

Maybe your a guitar player, singer or both, here are a couple tips.

Drop D tuning – drop both the E strings to D’s and play your hight e string open on the D chord (it is now a D because of the de-tune).

Also watch your bass note on the Bm7 and A chords- don’t hit the low E string, its now D because of the de-tune. But the D chord will sound great.

You will need to change your G chord because of the de-tune. Play 5×0400. (EADGBe) strings.

The open D is also a great drone on the opening riff line that matches the melody in the verse/into (listen how Shelby makes them work together).

Singing in the right key is super important as a performer.

Jason Mraz plays this in E. So take what we showed up above and add a Capo to fret 2. If this is to high for you, just go no Capo… REMEMBER – you are you, sound your best where you stand, not where someone else is… we can always grow!

If you are a girl singing, try to put the CAPO where Shelby did on fret 4 or 5. This raises the key to a “GIRL KEY”.

See links below for charts.

http://www.guitaretab.com/j/jason-mraz/303766.html — WILL NEED TO TRANSPOSE> This is the actual key of the recorded song – most acuate.

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/j/jason_mraz/i_wont_give_up_ver3_crd.htm (CAPO 2, use this if using Capo)

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/j/jason_mraz/i_wont_give_up_tab.htm - INTRO/VERSE HELP - transposed already… just add Capo if you need depending what key your singing.

Mobile uploads – more to come to youtube etc. but we wanted to show this to you. We loaded this straight to our facebook page (sorry, had to from our phones:). But its worth looking at!

Amazing how simple and yet how hard it is to just play the music we love. The last couple post on FB are of students of ours, Emma and Austin who show us how this works . Each student has a differing taste, but LOVE THEIR MUSIC! This year alone (and planning in the years to follow:) we have had 3 “public” performances in the local community - “Kids Day in The Park” – Lake Fair (2nd year), LIVE @ Kitzels – Cafe downtown, and Dancing Goats Coffee Roasters – Lacey, most of which are recorded in audio and video. These “performances” are our similar to the old “piano” recital, but more community focused. We want our musicians to do the music they love in the normal “musician-y” environments that normal musicians play in like parks, coffee shops, churches etc.

333 Music Studios also has passion for recording and writing new music. We do this 2 ways: 1. “Music Production / Song Craft” where we come along side song writers and artist to help them get to that next level in their song writing or tracking their albums and demos. 2. Live Recordings – getting our performances recorded and heard so we can can have something for our students, fans and families each time a student performs. To hear our “LIVE @ KITZELS performance to go our “333 LIVE PLAYER“. Let us know what you think!

Teaching and supporting in these ways are the core of what we do at 333 Music Studios in our private guitar, voice, piano and drum lessons. If you are an inspiring singer/song writer or musician looking for the next challenge, place to play, or for a teacher who would come along side – hit us up, we love what we do!

Check out these videos from guitar and voice lesson students Austin and Emma on our FB page.

Hope you enjoy this…

A blog entry from Andreaw Suppini, one of 333′s guitar teachers. Some great comments here on how music and our emotions are so closely linked and about the song “Poison & Wine” by The Civil Wars – thanks to Andreaw for bringing this to us! For more info about Andreaw or the studio click on his name or link below to see our guitar lessons and teacher bio pages. THANKS – Dylan – owner, teacher.

–

I find that writing usually comes easy to me. I enjoy hearing the click of the keyboard on my laptop as I type, the atmosphere I create that’s conducive to writing (Currently lots of natural light, sweet tea, and a very comfortable recliner), but mostly it’s about the feeling I get when my abstract thoughts become defined and distinct ideas. I asked someone who knows me very well for some inspiration, a topic, anything! She reminded me of a performance I saw a few days prior, a band called The Civil Wars on a show called ‘Storytellers’. She knows how much I love that band, so she told me to start there and ask myself questions about it. Even though I couldn’t picture what I would ask myself about this t.v. show, I went ahead and watched it anyway.

Poison & Wine – the song…

The band was over halfway through their set and I didn’t have any pressing questions on my mind yet, but then they started playing ‘Poison & Wine’, my favorite song on their album. I get choked up every time I hear that song, especially in the second verse when John Paul sings, “I don’t have a choice, but I still choose you”. It feels like my heart gets kicked and the sensation lingers for the remainder of the song. That’s when the question flooded into my mind.

“Why does this song make me feel this way?”

I don’t believe I’ve experienced a situation in my own life that reflects the story being shared in this song, how can I feel this deeply about it?

Music & Emotions…

That’s the beauty of great music. It draws you in, makes it feel like you’re a part of the story, even if you’ve never quite been there in your own life. I believe it is even more powerful if you have been there, or if you’re currently going through it. This is why music is so important in our lives, this is why music is so universal.

It’s that, I believe anyway, there are really a finite number of emotions humans feel (It’s finite, but it is also vast) but what makes us individual is that we feel them different ways. For example, some people take rejection much harder than loneliness, let’s say. So as a result, we all have different ways of expressing how we feel based on how we individually perceive the emotion. So when an artist records it – through music, poetry, whatever, it’s guaranteed to touch someone because we all have the same emotions. We just “connect” when someone feels an emotion similar to how we feel it, and when someone can put into words a feeling you’ve been struggling with…it’s a relief. Even if the feeling is bad, and didn’t get better, we feel better because we’re not alone. We’re all in this “being alive” business together and I feel that music is the greatest medium ever to convey that, because not only do the poetry in the lyrics tell us we’re not alone in feeling the way we do, the instrumental moves us emotionally, making us feel it too.

For the Musicians….

If you’re a musician and you’re reading this, let’s challenge ourselves to a higher standard. Let’s invite people into our stories. Let’s make something that evokes emotion. Let’s create music that will inspire.

There is a lot of instruction in this video as far as text is concerned etc. At 333 we love drummers to play “in time” so the use of a metronome is something we personal use and ask/insist/encourage our students and clients to use as well… staying simple and doing our job is the most important thing for every musician, specially drums.

4 beats here, something you can use in MANY songs! Try it with your friends, share it and let us know!
